Zakat Foundation of America Inaugurates Community Center in Long Island, NY

Zakat Foundation of America (ZFA) proudly unveiled its new community center in Long Island, NY, marking a significant milestone in its mission to serve and uplift communities. The grand opening, attended by over 75 guests, reflected the collective efforts and commitment to making a positive impact.

Founded in 2001, Zakat Foundation of America is a 501(c)3 NGO that helps generous and caring people reach out to those in need. Its mission is to address immediate needs and ensure the self-reliance of the poorest people around the world. ZFA conducts humanitarian assistance programs in more than 40 countries on five continents.

Since 2010, ZFA has been serving the state of New York, notably with hot food distributions in Brooklyn and active involvement during Hurricane Sandy in 2012. In 2023, ZFA volunteers assisted approximately 12,000 New York residents with essential items such as hygiene kits, emergency supplies, and hot meals.
Distinguished speakers at the event included Ali Tos, Director of Religious Affairs at the Turkish Consulate of NY, who commenced the proceedings with the recitation of the Holy Qur’an. Mr. Saghir Khan, CEO & Founder of the Kashmir American Alliance, emphasized the center's role in fostering local and international solidarity. Sookranie Dhanpat, South Asian Liaison of Community Affairs for Mayor Eric Adams' office, eloquently spoke about the intersection between cultural diversity and community development.

Suffolk County Legislator Samuel Gonzalez added a voice of experience and governmental support, highlighting the center's potential as a catalyst for positive change. Notably, Abdul Latif from Masjid Taqwa expressed gratitude for ZFA's consistent support, while long-term volunteer Noor Azeem shared her journey of growth within ZFA.

The event culminated with a message from Sarah Khan, Outreach and Community Engagement NY Coordinator, inviting everyone to keep an eye out for upcoming initiatives and encouraging their participation. Murat Kose, the longest-serving ZFA volunteer and CEO of Quantum3D, urged attendees to dedicate two hours a week to community service, emphasizing the joy and blessings it brings.
The evening celebrated the community center as a vital hub for positive change. From impactful projects to building a network of care and support, the center stands for more than just a physical space—it is a catalyst for change and a testament to the strength of unity. As attendees exchanged stories and made connections, the event marked the beginning of a space where change is initiated, one volunteer at a time.
